DARE graduation is on Friday in the auditorium. Good job, fifth graders!
Sap
Alex S.
In Mr. Holmes class. students made syrup! They tapped sap off of a tree, boiled it until it turned thick, and and then they ate it. Here you can see the sap boiling in the classroom. They said it was really good, although it tasted a little woody. Plus they were excited because they got to eat it with pancakes.

Last week, a man from Lake Superior Zoo came to Roosevelt Elementary with 3 animals to show the fourth graders. The animals were a Tortoise, a Chinchilla, and a Ferret. They learned a lot of facts about the animals. They learned that the fastest animal in the world is a bird, and not the Cheetah! That shocked everyone. Fourth graders said it was fun to see these animals in our school!

Well, today was the first day of MCA testing! M-C-A stands for Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment. All third through eleventh graders in the state of Minnesota take this test. It is always given in the spring. It helps the state, schools, and teachers make sure that all students are learning well. These tests are important, so make sure you do your best!

There are a few things to do to make sure you can concentrate. First, make sure you get a good night of sleep the night before so you're not tired. Make sure you eat a healthy breakfast so you're not hungry. Try to take some deep breaths to help you concentrate and not be nervous. Read every question carefully and select the best answer. Good luck!!
Bookfair

The Roosevelt bookfair will be held on April 15, 16 and 19 in the media center. Bring some money to get a good book!
NHS Game Night

April 16 is the National Honor Society Game Night, hosted for students grades 3-6. It will be held in the Roosevelt Gym and the Roosevelt Pool from 5:15 to 8:15.
IXL math
monica
IXL-dot-com is a website that students and teachers like to go to. You have to answer math questions.
There is even a page where you can get awards to use during school like maps, bikes, cars, so on. For example just for answering 20 questions in 30 minutes you would get 2 awards! This website makes learning fun and that will help you get ready for the MCAs.

Movie Review

Diary of a Wimpy Kid is about a kid named Greg Heffley. He is really funny. His mom bought him a journal with a cover that says "diary". He said, "Don't expect me to be all Dear Diary this, and Dear Diary that!" He has a friend named Rowley who acts like a little kid. They hate gym and end up hiding behind the bleachers. There are many funny parts, including some moldy cheese on the gym floor. This movie is based on a series of books by Jeff Kinney. There are several in the school library. You should see this movie, it is very funny! Thank you Kacie and Jasmine for your review.

Website Review

Ninja Kiwi is a fun website for kids to play games. There are many fun games, like Balloon Tower Defense, Boombot, and Meeblings. Just go to www-dot-ninjakiwi-dot-com. Not every game on this site is appropriate. You should ask your parents and make smart choices. Thank you to Tristan for this review.

ALEX: Hi, welcome to another edition of Roosevelt Elementary News. I'm Alex.
CHLOE: And I'm Chloe. Today is April 13, 2010.

ALEX: Well, today was the first day of MCA testing! M-C-A stands for Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment. All third through eleventh graders in the state of Minnesota take this test. They said it was really good, although it tasted a little woody. Plus they were excited because they got to eat it with pancakes.

CHLOE: It did taste a little woody, but I suppose that makes sense since it came from a tree! Let's see what is happening in sports. Kate?

KATE: Thanks, Chloe! Yesterday was the first Twins game in the new stadium, Target Field. The stadium was started in 2007 and is finally finished. It is an outdoor field, unlike their old home, the Metrodome. The Twins beat the Red Sox, 5 to 2.

And the girls in After School Tech Club were showing off some moves of their own last week. So if you think all we do is write stories and talk on camera, you're wrong! Wow, there might some some hidden talents we don't know about! Back to you Alex and Chloe.

ALEX: Yes, maybe some future super stars? In weather this week...it looks like the next couple of days could bring us some much-needed rain. Then some warm temperatures and mostly sunny days! Maybe even temps reaching into the 70s.

CHLOE: Well, we could use a little bit of rain! And now to Kelsi with entertainment reviews.

KELSI: Thank you! The Movie "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" is about a kid named Greg Heffley. He is really funny. His mom bought him a journal with a cover that says "diary". He said, "Don't expect me to be all Dear Diary this, and Dear Diary that!" He has a friend named Rowley who acts like a little kid. They hate gym and end up hiding behind the bleachers. And a book review from Beau F. Beau says that "Where the Red Fern Grows"
is an interesting book about a boy who wants two hound dogs. He thinks they would be great hunting dogs. They cost 25 dollars each, and he has to work for two years to earn that money. But the problem is that he lives in Missouri and the dogs are in Kentucky. He has to walk there to get them. The story is about his journey. Read the book to find out more!

That's all I've got in Entertainment. Back to you, Alex and Chloe!

CHLOE: Thank you, Kelsi. Well, that's it for another edition of Roosevelt Elementary News. If there's something cool going on in your classroom, we'd love to share! Just let Mrs. Aune know! I'm Chloe.

ALEX: And I'm Alex. From all of us in After School Tech Club, have a great week!
